Ibraheem Nasir grew up in a kitchen that was a delicious melting pot of Creole, Caribbean, and Latin American cooking. As he got older, he learned the importance of eating naturally. He hated that it was so hard to find convenient foods that were both healthy and authentic. He then started a Dozen cousins so that it would be easier to enjoy authentic cultural recipes made with wholesome ingredients.
"From Virginia to Venezuela there are few dishes loved more universally than a good pot of beans. To keep that love alive, we slow cook our beans using real, wholesome ingredients and season them using time-tested recipes. The brand name is inspired by my daughter, her 11 cousins, and all the great family dinners we enjoy together."

2019: The Happy Kitchen/La Cocina Alegre
The Happy Kitchen/La Cocina Alegre is a program of The Sustainable Food Center that offers free cooking and nutrition classes to communities in need. This year we partnered with them to sponsor two 6-week courses (one in English, one in Spanish) that allowed 50 families to receive nutrition education that was Budget Conscious, Culturally Relevant, and Taught by Former Students from their own community.
2020: Project Potluck
Project Potluck is an industry organization with the mission to help People of Color build successful companies and careers in the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industry. In 2020, A Dozen Cousins made an in-kind donation to Project Potluck alongside Beanfields and Mason Dixie Foods in order to help increase the number of better-for-you brands that are built by and targeted towards People of Color.
2021: Los Angeles Community Fridges
In 2021, A Dozen Cousins made a food donation to LA Community Fridges using all proceeds from our "Kitchen Collection", an exclusive-collection curated by talented Latina artists and creators in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. LA Community Fridges is a one-of-a-kind organization that maintains a free network of public refrigerators throughout Los Angeles.
This allows citizens to easily share food with members of their community that are in need. The org is 100% run by volunteers and has changed the way communities pour into each other. Learn more by following @lacommunityfridges on Instagram!
